Alan I. Lewis - Bio

Alan Lewis has practiced law for over thirteen years. He regularly advises executive management on all aspects of their businesses. His practice currently focuses primarily on (1) software licensing and related technology transactions; and (2) corporate counseling and business transactions. Prior to starting his own practice, Alan served as an in-house consulting attorney to General Counsels at several technology companies with products and services that included semi-conductors and microprocessors, software for various vertical markets and storage area networking services.

Prior to working as a consulting in-house attorney, Alan served as Corporate Counsel to Inktomi Corporation, one of the world's leading Internet infrastructure software companies. During his tenure at Inktomi, Alan worked side-by-side with senior management in all facets of Inktomi's business, including product management, direct and indirect sales channels, marketing and PR, revenue recognition and finance. While at Inktomi, Alan helped the company structure, negotiate, document and close some of its largest and most strategic commercial transactions. He regularly structured, negotiated, documented and closed OEM, VAR, Portal Services and other transactions with leading Inktomi customers and business partners such as AOL, Microsoft, Lycos, Dell Computers, Hewlett-Packard Company, and Williams Communications, to name but a few. He also managed the design and implementation of mission critical business processes and best practices.

Prior to joining Inktomi's in-house legal team, Alan was a Senior Associate with the San Francisco offices of the international law firm of McKenna & Cuneo, LLP, now McKenna, Long & Aldridge. During his tenure at McKenna & Cuneo, Alan served a number of privately held and publicly traded clients. His practice focused on general corporate counseling including the formation and dissolution of partnerships and Limited Liability Companies, complex multi-million dollar Project Finance transactions, and commercial real estate transactions. He also successfully litigated several complex environmental cases, including cases that went to trial in both state and federal courts and resulted in very successful outcomes for the firm's clients.

Prior to that, Alan served for two and half years as Assistant Regional Counsel for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the Agency's Chicago regional office. At EPA, Alan was responsible for a caseload that included Superfund enforcement and cost recovery actions, and administrative enforcement actions and permitting under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act ("RCRA") and the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act ("EPCRA").
